July 2009: Employment Activity by Job Title

For a third straight month the CareerCast.com/JobSerf index recorded an increase in availability for Manager, Director, VP and C-Level positions. Director and Manager fared the best, however, with each recording a nearly 20% increase in July. This jump pushed the availability of Director level jobs ahead of the pack, with C-Suite jobs falling to second place after performing best in June.

NOTE: The CareerCast.com/JobSerf Employment Index calculates all Index scores against a base year of 2007, where the number of job listings available online during each month of 2007 = 100 points. A score < 100 means that the number of job listings in a given month is less than were online during the same month in 2007, while a value > 100 means that more jobs are available during that month than were in 2007.

While the number of available jobs for all managerial positions grew significantly faster than in June, both the CXO and VP-levels continued to show weaker performance after a strong rebound in May. The availability of C-suite jobs in particular grew only incrementally, especially when compared to the 20-point jump for Manager level positions.
